I made a little mistake today that could be very beneficial down the road. It all started when I was minding my own business and I showed up for my weekly networking lunch in Ventura. I walked into the normal room that I meet everyone. I looked around and didn't recognize one person. So, I figured I must be early and this group hasn't finished yet. I tried to get out unnoticed but it was too late. A man walked up to me, so I introduced myself. "Hi, my name is Tara." He responded, "Hi Tara, what are you doing here today?" I said, "Well, I think I am in the wrong room." He said, "That's too bad. We are all retired Doctors that get together once a month and share new ideas." I knew I was in the wrong room. I laughed it off. Go figure, I would be in the wrong room. It was so coincidental, but I responded,t"That is interesting. I sell and market for a medical technology company." He said, "Stay and sell your stuff. By this time I had 5 men surround me (all over the age of 65). I said, "Well, I would like to but you have someone else coming to talk to you about another idea. I am not about to step on toes, especially since I shouldn't have been here in the first place." I politely excused myself and made sure to make a raincheck for another time. When my luncheon was coming to an end and with just a few people left I told them what happened. They immediatley pushed me out the door and told me to go back. A few doctors where still left, so I asked if they allowed new speakers to come into their group. The two men directed me to the man in charge, and he took all of the information I could give him and said they where booked for the next two meetings. I told him that's fine.
So I guess what I have deducted is everything happens for a reason. Just make sure you know it when you see it. But, sometimes it just takes that extra push from people who care about you.
